Lewis Hamilton's Monza Experience

MONZA, Italy -- Lewis Hamilton acknowledged that his experience at the Italian Grand Prix feels distinct this year as he prepares for his transition to Ferrari in 2025.

Ferrari, the most successful team in Formula 1 history, is intrinsically linked to Monza, which has hosted the Italian GP every year of the championship era except for 1980. Earlier this year, Hamilton signed a contract to take over Carlos Sainz's position next season. "I won't lie, it certainly feels a bit different. Coming here always feels special," Hamilton remarked during Thursday's press conference. "We're arriving at a great time, with fantastic weather today and the significant changes made to the track. The passion throughout Italy, especially regarding racing, is truly remarkable." "It's always thrilling to engage with the fans throughout the weekend; the enthusiasm and energy they bring to this race is unmatched in many other places."
Since signing the contract, Hamilton has refrained from discussing his upcoming move, choosing instead to focus on his final year with Mercedes. However, the subject of his transition dominated his media session prior to this year's race. The seven-time world champion expressed his appreciation for the warm reception he has consistently received from Italy's fanbase, known as the tifosi. "I'm not sure what to expect. To be honest, I've always felt warmly welcomed during my visits here. There was a time when we were in a fierce competition with Ferrari, though I can't recall the exact year, and even then, the fans were positive; there was never any negativity." Hamilton, who admitted his Italian language skills are still developing, then turned to his future teammate Charles Leclerc, who was seated next to him, and asked: "I think over the past few years, I've heard, is it vine Ferrari? How do you say come to Ferrari?"

Leclerc chuckled and responded, "Come on, Ferrari." In reply, Hamilton remarked, "Come on, Ferrari! I've heard that phrase numerous times. It will be fascinating to see how things unfold this year. For instance, at Imola, I received a very warm welcome. Did you see that incredible photo of the three of us—me, you, and Fred?" Hamilton was alluding to an image that depicted him, Leclerc, and Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur in a saintly manner.
